Concealment can protect LGBTQ+ healthcare staff from immediate harm while also creating psychological and relational costs. Hiding identity can limit authentic workplace connection and create internal inauthenticity. Participants described non-disclosure as exhausting and burdensome. Non-disclosure can limit staff members’ ability to challenge homophobia in the workplace.
