A prior randomized trial by the same group associated active TMS with mitigation of brain metabolic decline and improvements in clinical outcomes. No prior study had directly compared tDCS and TMS efficacy or assessed prolonged tDCS therapy in PPA. Most prior NIBS studies in PPA used tDCS and reported short-term benefits, but their findings were inconsistent. Non-invasive brain stimulation is presented as a promising adjunctive approach for PPA treatment.
