The study evaluated six non-invasive indicators, split between disease-specific fatty liver indices and broader metabolic indicators. Disease-specific indicators were generally superior for identifying NAFLD, MAFLD and MASLD. Most indicators performed best under the MAFLD framework. TyG and VAI were stable across diagnostic criteria, unlike several other indicators. All six indicators showed acceptable discrimination under all three disease definitions.
