Participants apply nVNS twice daily, with two 2-minute stimulations per session. The effect of non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation on the human glymphatic system has not yet been explored. The nVNS signal uses 5 kHz sine waves repeated at 25 Hz for a fixed duration of 2 minutes. Non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation is intended to inhibit cortical spreading depolarisations that may impair glymphatic flow. The trial expects an effect in CAA because CSD-related phenomena are common in that population. The nVNS intervention uses the gammaCore Sapphire handheld device.
