The observational nature of the NORCOR data prevents causal inference between insomnia and outcomes, as the associations may be confounded by unmeasured variables. At the 4.2-year follow-up, approximately half the NORCOR cohort had been readmitted for a recurrent cardiovascular event. The NORCOR study enrolled 528 CHD patients aged 18–62 at two Norwegian hospitals with baseline examination occurring 2–36 months post-index event. Recurrent cardiovascular events were ascertained from medical records by two cardiologists over a median 4.2-year follow-up. At a mean of 16 months post-event, approximately half the NORCOR cohort reported symptoms of chronic insomnia.
