The models are limited because NORspine records outcomes only after surgical treatment and cannot compare surgery with non-surgical treatment. The data source was NORspine, a national registry covering degenerative lumbosacral spine surgery cases from all Norwegian hospitals that provide spine surgery. Eligible cases had MRI-confirmed LDH or LSS and underwent elective decompression surgery with or without fusion. Acute operations were excluded from the study cohort.
