The target sample size for the pilot is 60 participants across two sites, revised down from an initial target of 120 due to project delays and community consultations. The initiative was co-designed with Aboriginal people living on Ngarrindjeri Ruwe and was initiated by Ngarrindjeri elders who had witnessed the impacts of diabetes on their community first-hand. Nra:gi Ya:yun translates as 'very good food' or 'very good eating' in Ngarrindjeri language and was gifted as the programme name through community co-design. Co-design was conducted through 10 workshops held over 6 months on Ngarrindjeri Ruwe. The primary outcome of the Nra:gi Ya:yun initiative is feasibility, assessed across recruitment, retention, and adherence rates, to inform a subsequent large-scale clinical trial. The project aims to stimulate ongoing capacity building in partner health organisations so that programme activities continue after the study concludes.
