Operating Room Teamwork

Good teamwork supports operating room efficiency, quality of care, and patient safety. Safe surgery depends on coordinated interprofessional work in a complex operating room environment. The synthesis found that OR teamwork is shaped by individual, interpersonal, leadership, and systemic factors. Surgical complications are reported to be much more likely when interprofessional teamwork fails.
