Alkaline brushing products that avoid harsh ingredients are presented as less likely to disturb taste. SLS and other harsh toothpaste or mouthwash ingredients are described as disrupting the tongue’s phospholipid layer. Artificial sweeteners such as aspartame or saccharin are suggested as a possible contributor to unpleasant aftertaste. Some conventional toothpastes and mouthwashes can create an unpleasant taste after brushing, especially with coffee or orange juice.
