Orthoses can stabilize fractures, prevent deformity, and support recovery. Prostheses restore function and mobility after limb loss. Strategic deployment of P&O devices is asserted to improve survival, reduce medical resource strain, and support long-term functional recovery. Orthotic and prosthetic interventions have a distinct role in disaster response after limb loss and musculoskeletal trauma. Orthoses can sometimes substitute temporarily or permanently for surgical fracture management where surgical capacity is limited.
