Patients in enhanced data collection are followed from admission until three months after discharge. Non-routine data are collected during two four-week enhanced data collection periods, one in control and one in intervention. The primary outcome was selected because it is clinically meaningful, sufficiently sensitive, and close enough in time to the intervention. The implementation outcome is the percentage of displayed products classified as RED at each facility. The effectiveness outcome is the percentage of RED food and drink product volume purchased per week using sales data. FoodChecker classifies products and calculates the percentage of displayed products in each health category at each facility. Facility photo audits are conducted every 6 months using a standardised protocol. Weekly itemised sales data are provided annually by each facility through electronic point-of-sale systems. The primary outcome is unplanned hospital readmission within 90 days. Routine data are collected for all eligible patients across the 18-month control and intervention periods.
