Dutch national guidelines permit personalised ovarian cancer follow-up options, but standard in-person consultations are usually used in the study region. Early treatment of asymptomatic recurrence has not been shown to improve survival or health-related quality of life. Physical examination is poorly suited for detecting recurrence in this follow-up context. Routine imaging or routine CA-125 monitoring is not considered useful for ovarian cancer follow-up in this context. Ovarian cancer follow-up in the Netherlands is largely doctor-driven and focused on recurrence. More than 75% of ovarian cancer patients recur within 24 months despite surgery and chemotherapy.
