The elbow must bend again under control after it straightens at the top of each repetition. The lifter continues pressing until the arms reach overhead. During the overhead portion, the lifter should actively reach upward toward the ceiling. The movement finishes by reaching toward the ceiling from the front after the quarter dip and leg drive. During the exercise the arm is positioned crossing near the chest area while the hand holds the weight. The exercise prioritizes correct positioning and controlled movement over immediately increasing weight. The overhead triceps extension is designed to ensure the triceps engage during an overhead elbow-extension movement.
