PIC grew from the Royal Children's Hospital CPG committee originally formed in 1996 with senior and junior doctors and nurses from general and emergency medicine. The Paediatric Improvement Collaborative was established in 2018 to improve paediatric care and reduce unwarranted clinical variation across Australia. Western Australia joined PIC in 2025, completing a fully national collaborative. Hosting PIC CPGs on the RCH website may perpetuate a perception that they are Victoria-specific, which could explain consistently higher Victorian usage rates. Nearly 270 CPGs are available via the RCH website and a companion mobile app, alongside parent-facing resources. A key objective of PIC's national expansion is to eliminate duplication of CPG development effort across health services and jurisdictions.
