Paediatric PTE differs from adult PTE because children have distinct coagulation physiology, comorbidities, and healthcare exposures. Pulmonary circulatory dysfunction and respiratory dysfunction are the main pathophysiological consequences of paediatric PTE. Paediatric PTE is rare but potentially life-threatening.
