Simple, credible permission to move may be more clinically useful than technical explanations about pain mechanisms. Detailed neuroscience education using technical terminology is not always necessary and may not be what patients need. Building therapeutic trust enables patients to attempt movements they previously found threatening. Manual therapy can serve a trust-building function that facilitates patient willingness to engage in movement-based work. The sequencing of exercise and comfort-producing interventions should be adapted to the individual patient rather than following a fixed order.
