Future longitudinal research would strengthen causal evidence for the observed associations. Early integration of palliative care into oncology care is recommended to address late referral patterns. Gender-equity interventions are recommended to close the utilization gap for female patients. A family-centred approach could extend support to patients with smaller social networks.
