Greater investment in palliative care research is needed to respond to identified needs and ensure under-represented voices are heard. In 2022, UK palliative and end-of-life care research received only 0.23% of all health-related research funding, equivalent to £6.47 million out of £2.79 billion. The top 2015 priority — improving care outside working hours — received £1.6 million across 11 grants after 2015 but still ranked 9th in the 2025 refresh. Each 2015 priority received at least some UK research funding since 2015, but progress remained incomplete across all of them.
