Patient Attendance

Patients who miss multiple appointments may need different support from patients who miss single appointments. The intervention's reminder theory was not supported by the quantitative results. Reasons for non-attendance include both patient-level barriers and system-level failures. Non-attendance at NHS appointments is an operational and access problem, especially when waiting lists are long. Chronic lateness can create a major problem for care delivery. Repeated lateness, cancellations, and no-shows require a contingency plan. Clinicians should first examine whether expectations, program feasibility, value, and scheduling barriers were addressed.
