Adults who receive patient decision aids are more knowledgeable, have clearer values, and participate more in decisions. Decision aids are expected to be central to a peer-driven intervention supporting uptake of HIV prevention and contraception services. Evidence in early-stage breast cancer shows decision aids can improve patients' knowledge, decision quality, and satisfaction with decisions. Patient decision aids may help address gender bias by preparing patients to discuss options, benefits, harms, and preferences. Despite available evidence, few patient decision aids for early-stage breast cancer exist in the Italian context. The final decision aid met all six IPDAS criteria required for classification as a decision aid reducing harmful bias risk. The decision aid met 21 of 23 IPDASi quality criteria, with the unmet criteria related to effectiveness evaluation.
