A forthcoming retrospective cohort study is described as showing a statistically significant reduction in diverticulitis recurrence among patients referred for pelvic floor physiotherapy. Subsequent pelvic floor physiotherapy appointments are scheduled every 3–4 weeks for up to 6 months at the physiotherapist's discretion. The retrospective evidence for pelvic floor physiotherapy is limited by selection bias and limited confounder control. The initial pelvic floor physiotherapy session is a one-hour individual outpatient assessment. The intervention arm receives standard dietary and fluid advice plus referral for pelvic floor physiotherapy within 3–4 weeks after hospital discharge. Pelvic floor physiotherapy treatment may include therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, instrument-based biofeedback, behavioural strategies, and lifestyle modification strategies.
