People living with HIV who are treated for anal cancer are largely absent from dedicated lived-experience research. The review cannot determine HIV-specific patterns in treatment experience or quality of life because included studies aggregated HIV-positive and HIV-negative participants. Available evidence came from broader anal cancer populations rather than studies focused exclusively on people living with HIV. Anal cancer disproportionately affects people living with HIV, especially men who have sex with men. Future research should directly focus on lived experiences of people living with HIV treated for anal cancer.
