Personal Development During Downturns

The deeper opportunity in a crisis is becoming calmer, more proactive, and more capable rather than simply adding narrow technical credentials. Disruption can return one to two hours per day that would otherwise be spent commuting, and that time can be redirected toward improvement. Personal improvements made during a downturn can continue to pay off for life and may support career advancement. Business school was the common development response during the dot-com era, but today building personal capability is the more relevant opportunity. When normal employment paths are blocked or slow, the time should be used to become better prepared for the future.
