Premolar-extraction orthodontics does not produce significant counterclockwise mandibular rotation. In the control group, 0.019×0.025-inch stainless steel archwires are used during gap closure to ensure retraction occurs purely in the sagittal dimension with no inadvertent intrusion. Molar mesialisation during space closure is typically accompanied by molar elongation, which is unfavourable for vertical control of the mandibular plane. Extraction of four premolars with standard mechanics is widely used for hyperdivergent class II malocclusion.
