Starting preschool at 16-19 months did not substantially differ from starting at 20 months or later for high total SDQ or externalising problems. The association between early preschool start and total SDQ was likely driven by externalising problems rather than internalising problems. Starting preschool at 12-15 months was associated with modestly higher odds of high total SDQ score and externalising problems in adolescence compared with starting at 20 months or later. Age at preschool start was not associated with internalising problems or depressive symptoms.
