Prevention and Risk Groups

Pregnant women are vulnerable to severe toxoplasmosis outcomes because the parasite can cross the placenta and cause birth defects or miscarriage. Immunocompromised individuals face higher risk because impaired immunity allows parasites to establish and proliferate more easily. Children are particularly vulnerable to Giardia and pinworm, and school-age children are the highest-risk group for enterobiasis.
