Privacy and Misuse

Attention and physiology data are sensitive and create significant privacy concerns. Attention metrics could be used to rank, exclude, pressure, or surveil people. Closed-loop biosensing and immersive feedback could theoretically worsen attention, mood, dependency, or arousal if misused or poorly optimized. Responsible development requires anticipating worst-case uses and designing protections around them. Focus data could be misused by employers, insurers, credit agencies, or other institutions.
