Hexane is the same petrochemical solvent used to process industrial seed oils such as canola, soybean, and sunflower. Cold-pressed castor oil is recommended over other processing methods because it preserves ricinoleic acid and vitamin E content. Hexane residues in processed castor oil can dry out skin rather than hydrate it, directly counteracting the oil's main benefit.
