The cross-sectional design of the study prevents causal conclusions about whether psychological symptoms caused specific support preferences. Self-reported symptom data may be underestimated because stigma and social desirability could lead participants to underreport mental health symptoms. Prior research had documented high rates of anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, and sleep disturbance in healthcare workers actively working during COVID-19. Unaddressed psychological distress among healthcare workers can contribute to burnout, staff shortages, and suicide risk.
