Public Criticism

The Coast Guard rescue metaphor suggests that attention should be directed first toward people who are actively moving toward help and connection. At large public scale, hostile responses are outnumbered by appreciation, recognition, and gratitude. Some people remain committed to anger regardless of how much evidence of care or goodness they are shown. Some people seek targets for hatred because of their own discomfort with themselves, not because of anything specific the target did. Energy should be invested in people who genuinely want support and move toward connection rather than those who reject it.
