AMSTAR-PF shows agreement and usability broadly comparable to, or better than, other established quality appraisal tools such as AMSTAR 2, ROBIS, ROB 2, ROBINS-I, and ROB-NRSE. A survey of 309 published systematic reviews found that 54 different combinations of quality assessment tools had been used across them. Different quality appraisal tools can produce divergent or even opposite quality conclusions when applied to the same systematic review. Increased uptake of reporting guidelines for prognostic factor reviews would reduce appraiser subjectivity and improve agreement when using quality appraisal tools.
