Rib fracture pain may limit respiratory movement and impair lung expansion, disrupting breathing patterns during swallowing and weakening cough ability assessed by the SSA. Patients without rib fractures were 8.243 times more likely to be classified in the low-risk swallowing recovery group after extubation.
