The drill uses a controlled rolling and reaching movement. The forward roll is paired with an exhale and an opposite-arm toe reach. The rollback is performed while the other leg stays straight. The rollback is performed on an inhale while keeping one leg gently held to the chest and the opposite leg straight. The arms may be used for support during the rollback. The rollback should go as far as possible while maintaining straight-leg control and preventing the legs from dropping down.
