Most reinfected participants were symptomatic during reinfection, similar to their initial infection in 2020. Reinfection symptoms differed from initial infection, with less fatigue, chest tightness, cough, and shortness of breath but more sore throat. Reinfection classification required suspected reinfection plus a positive PCR-based nucleic acid or antigen test. Reinfection of previously infected individuals is a contributing driver of the Omicron wave's steep case rise. Age remained the only significant independent factor associated with reinfection risk in multivariable analysis. Prior infection with SARS-CoV-2 does not fully protect against reinfection by the Omicron variant.
