The active midstance test uses a scoring system from 0 to 5 based on the highest step completed successfully. A score of 5 means the person completes the full test correctly. The score is assigned at the point where the person can no longer complete a required step while preserving previous requirements. A score of 1 is assigned when the starting position is achieved but both feet cannot be flattened onto the ground. A score of 0 is assigned when the person cannot obtain or maintain the required starting position. A score of 4 is assigned when all movements are performed but only one of the two target bottom-side muscle regions is felt.
