Two reviewers will independently conduct blinded title and abstract screening in Rayyan. Two reviewers will independently extract data using a standardized form. A second reviewer will screen at least 10% of titles and abstracts to check for bias and errors. The review will use electronic database searches, grey literature searches, and backward citation searching. Electronic searches will be conducted in Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science. Search results will be deduplicated in EndNote and screened in Rayyan. MEDLINE and Embase via Ovid will be searched from January 2011 to the present with an English-language restriction. Results will be managed through EndNote for automatic duplicate removal and Rayyan for manual duplicate removal and screening. Three reviewers will independently screen articles, with one screening all records and two each screening a random half subset. Search terms will cover neonatal mortality outcomes and socioeconomic concepts using database-specific operators and adaptations.
