In the type 1 diabetes group, 96.3% of anorexia nervosa cases were female. The similar female predominance in both the type 1 diabetes and control groups suggests that type 1 diabetes did not substantially alter the sex distribution of anorexia nervosa. Only four males with type 1 diabetes developed anorexia nervosa, which prevented statistically reliable male-specific analyses.
