Mauro et al. assessed sexual health most thoroughly, but measured changes in sexual function and HIV-targeted quality of life were not statistically significant. Qualitative responses identified sexual function as an important concern. Many participants experienced greater-than-expected declines in sexual interest and function during long-term follow-up. Stakeholders reported that anal sex was rarely discussed after pelvic radiotherapy, leaving people uncertain and unsupported. Participants wanted clinicians to recognise the anus as a sexual organ.
