The Copenhagen abduction variation maintains the core stability demands of a standard side plank. The hips are lifted into the air while maintaining the side-supported position. The exercise begins in a side-supported position with knees down, one hand and one forearm on the ground. The supporting elbow or forearm should be positioned directly below the shoulder. The forearm and thighs should be parallel to each other in the starting position. The exercise simultaneously targets the abdominals and the top-side glute. The body must remain in a straight line throughout the side plank position.
