SIGNAL enrolment was halted in January 2020 due to funding expiry and the COVID-19 pandemic. The SIGNAL registry was established in 2017 at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to address gaps in existing stroke registries. As a single-centre, single-city registry, SIGNAL's findings may not generalise to rural, non-metropolitan, or non-NHS healthcare settings. The SIGNAL catchment area covers approximately 1.6 million residents across five North Central London boroughs. Anonymised SIGNAL data may be requested by external researchers subject to Steering Committee review and a formal data-sharing agreement. SIGNAL is a prospective, hospital-based, observational registry enrolling consecutive stroke admissions to the UCLH Comprehensive Stroke Service. A 10-year follow-up phase is planned as a formal research study, distinct from the clinical registry.
