This visualization technique shifts the subjective sense of the body from a solid object to an open field of space. Attention is broadened so the whole body is felt as subtly expanding and contracting with each breath, rather than only the lungs or belly. The exhalation is imagined to leave only space behind, so the body begins to feel like space rather than solid matter. Imagining inner and outer space as continuous dissolves the felt edges of the body in awareness. The inhalation is visualized as filling the entire body rather than only the lungs.
