Shifting reliance toward inner guidance produces two distinct effects: freedom and a sense of certainty and safety. Trusting inner wisdom produces a stable sense of grounding rather than dependence on an external source that could be lost or discredited. Trusting inner guidance produces freedom from the feeling that growth must follow a prescribed method or another person's directions. The internal sense of safety from trusting inner wisdom is qualitatively different from conditional security derived from an external authority, because it is not contingent on that authority remaining intact.
