Spirometry was viewed as portable, but repeated attempts to obtain acceptable readings were a major limitation. Spirometry is a pulmonary function test. Spirometry relies on two key measurements: FVC and FEV1. Spirometry measures lung function and airflow obstruction. The need for repeated spirometry attempts cannot be entirely removed because spirometry is effort-dependent and requires quality control. Most interviewed participants reported concern, anxiety, or frustration about unsuccessful spirometry attempts or potentially incorrect results. Repeated forced spirometry blows could leave some participants tired, breathless, or frustrated. Participants used a MIR Spirobank Smart handheld spirometer linked to the MIR Spiro mobile app.
