The drill uses four to six bounds before the sprint. The final bound should flow seamlessly into the sprint. The athlete should reach the arms forward and outward to drive acceleration when the sprint begins. The bounding rhythm is intended to feed into the first running strides. Athletes should accelerate into a full sprint immediately after the bounds. After finishing the sprint, the athlete decelerates and returns to the starting position. The sprint transition occurs after five to ten yards of backpedaling.
