Deep hip pain during squatting may be connected to pelvic orientation and available hip motion, especially hip internal rotation. Anterior pelvic tilt is cited as reducing hip internal rotation, which is needed during a squat. For squat-related deep hip pain associated with arched bench pressing, recommended management includes posterior-orientation work, avoiding excessive squat arching, and improving breathing and bracing. Excessively arching during the squat is not recommended. Reduced available hip rotation may cause a lifter to reach end range sooner during squats and contribute to deep hip pain.
