Staff Knowledge and Judgement

Prior education, collaboration with prescribers, and resources supported appropriate antipsychotic use. Staff distinguished appropriate antipsychotic use from inappropriate use to control unregulated dementia-related behaviours. The study did not identify a broad knowledge deficit about antipsychotic risks or disagreement with reducing inappropriate use. Participants described themselves as trained to request or prescribe antipsychotics appropriately for residents with dementia-related symptoms.
