A nursing workforce with broader generalist skills gave practices more flexibility. Nurses and healthcare assistants were more likely than other staff to find the template familiar and able to become part of normal work. The template required generalist capability across multiple conditions. Many nurses had advanced skills in specific long-term conditions but less confidence reviewing other conditions. The first PP4M consultation was usually intended for a healthcare assistant or nurse, while the annual review was usually intended for a nurse or general practitioner.
