Active deflection may allow steerable FANS to achieve better access to the lower pole. Stable steerable sheath positioning is expected to improve targeting, retrieval efficiency, and suction in anatomically difficult lower calyces. Steerable FANS uses a distal-handle deflection lever for active controlled sheath deflection under ureteroscopic guidance. The steerable FANS lever can be fixed to maintain a stable deflected sheath position during lithotripsy, aspiration, and repeated ureteroscope re-entry. Steerable FANS is intended to overcome the passive-deflection limitation of conventional FANS.
