Among females and people aged 65 or older, PAAP saved costs and generated more QALYs compared with usual care. The greatest PAAP benefits were observed among females, older adults, people with fewer comorbidities, and frequent antibiotic users. PAAP was not uniformly cost-effective across all patient groups. Lower apparent cost-effectiveness among patients with two or more QOF conditions may reflect a measurement artefact. The article identifies males over 65 and females over 40 with recent antibiotic use as a promising targeting strategy.
