Enhanced surveillance capacity has produced new epidemiological insights. Governance of expanding surveillance data is presented as a critical issue. Three distinct monkeypox virus lineages were documented as co-circulating in the Republic of Congo. Recent surveillance work characterised the dynamics and possible origins of the mpox outbreak in Sierra Leone. Data sharing and analysis frameworks are described as infrastructure needed for real-time outbreak actionability.
